LGA04 Local Government Training Package – inform the Case for Change

The Local Government Industry Reference Committee has identified an overwhelming need to thoroughly review and update the LGA04 Local Government Training Package. SkillsIQ has recently undertaken national surveys to capture broad stakeholder perspectives on the need for training package review. Feedback received from the surveys is currently being collated and will inform the development of a Case for Change to be put to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) regarding a proposed review of the training package.

The Local Government Training Package has not been comprehensively reviewed since 2004. Subsequently, industry has evolved significantly, making it a priority to update the training package which has not kept pace with legislative changes, scope of the sector or new technologies.

There is widespread support for a full review of the Local Government Training Package which is considered critical. SkillsIQ has been commissioned by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) to complete the necessary research and consultation to develop a Case for Change that sets out the drivers for change and the evidence on which the Local Government IRC recommendation for change can be based.

Two surveys have recently been undertaken that sought to capture broad stakeholder perspectives on the need for training package review. Thank you to those stakeholders who provided their feedback through these surveys. The feedback is now being collated and will inform a Case for Change in relation to review of the Local Government Training Package.
